Installing the Deck

Bulkhead problem

Installing the Deck
Building John's Sharpie. Sheer clamps are installed, now planing down the sheers. Top edge of forward bulkhead is 1/4 inch too low where it meets the sheer, is that amount shy of being flush with the sheer. What to do?

Dang... Ding!

Installing the Deck
Trimming the excess deck material from the cockpit was tough. I ended up cutting into the deck a tiny bit. It was too tight a curve for my block plane to be of use. I finally resorted to sanding down the extra with my random orbital sander. It was slow, but more straightforward.

Another observation, was that after flipping the boat over and pouring some mustard thick epoxy glue along the deck to hull seam, created a lot more work when trimming and planning the excess deck material. My plane didn't like the hardened epoxy.

All in all, I am moving along pretty well and should be able to put the boat in the water on vacation next week. It just might not look so great until I do the finishing steps this winter.

Glassing the Deck

Good Threads | Installing the Deck
I am about to glass the deck on the Mill Creek 15 and found this useful thread in the CLC forums.

I expect the advice in this thread to make a sanding and finishing a lot easier on this boat.
